It felt like the wind was suddenly playing Nordic games as the Czech championships in sailing on Lipno Lake took place last weekend. With summer-like temperatures around 22°C, light breezes, and occasional gusts, six races drew Tornado boats into the spotlight. Conditions were demanding: wind shifts, changing leaders, and a nearly predictable course layout challenged every crew—and delivered a spectacle of the highest grade.
The Czech elite put on a strong performance. At the front, Michaela Pavlisová and Marek Pavlis, together with Zdeněk Pavlis and Jiří Pavlis, dominated the field and led the pack on multiple occasions. The German Tornado team Betz also stood out, securing a respectable third place – an impressive achievement given wind speeds between six and ten knots.
Special praise went to the race officer for a weekend of secure and confident organization with only three marks and one start boat. The spectators responded with cheers and applause as the wind continually reshuffled the order and thrilling lead changes announced themselves.
