The seventh and eighth race of the 2024 World Championship started differently than planned. After the local sailors and various forecast models predicted the highest wind peak for the morning/midday, the start of the first race was brought forward to 11 am. As planned, the competitors then took to the water in the morning in conditions of around 6-8 knots of wind coupled with a high wave.
The start of the seventh race had to be repeated for the first time in the championship due to a mass early start. After the sailors were more cautious at the start line due to the black flag, a strong wind shift also ruined this start and the race committee had the start postponed in order to reset the race course. After a short wait, the race finally got underway and the AUT 995 team (Angelika K. and Calvin K.) were able to extend their lead in the mixed and overall rankings with a commanding race win. The youngsters team AUT 32 (Nicolas M. and Matthäus Zöchling) also coped brilliantly with the challenging conditions and finished the race in 2nd place. Race 8 was won by Marcel Steiner and his son Ben Steiner. Similar conditions are forecast for tomorrow. The final races 9 and 10 are also scheduled for 11 am. Zdenek Pavlis with daughter Klara Pavlisova (3rd place overall) and Marcel Steiner with Ben Steiner (2nd place overall) are separated by just three points. So it remains exciting to see who will be crowned world champion and vice world champion after tomorrow.
