2018 Europeans – Day 1

Day 1
Thursday September 13

First day of the 2018 Europeans organized by the Circolo Vela Arco located in the North of Lake Garda (Italy)
As usually for that part of Lake Garda, the wind was blowing from the North in the morning.
Clouds were covering the summits of the surrounding mountains.
The Opening ceremony took place under the Presidence of Mr Luca NARDELLI, President of the CVA, and Mr Joseph Gunkel ITA representative.
The technical briefing was managed by Mr Giorgio BATTINELLI, international race
Officer and Chairman of the Race Committee.
The North wind decreased slowly, and at 01.00PM the South wind (“la Ora”) came in.
The first race started with around 12 knots of wind.

Superb start by a beautiful fleet of 23 boats coming from 9 different countries.
The crew of GRE 7 by Paschalidis Iordanis and Trigonis Konstantinos, very well known for their speed, was leading at the first mark and never been approached by others. Marcel and Jorg STEINER (SUI 225) were
very fast in the last downwind of the 3 laps’ course and finished 2 just ahead of Bob and Marc
BAIER (GER 14).
At the start of the second race, the wind got a bit stronger and the sky. Paschalidis Iordanis and Konstantinos Trigonis prove once more that they are untouchable.
Only Marcel STEINER and Jörg STEINER (Sui 225) seemed during the first lap;
able to create a surprise. But SUI 225 finished just 200meters behind GRE 7.
