European Championship 2023 – Day 3

On the third day of the European Championship in the Tornado boat class, the predicted weather conditions provided an exciting challenge for the sailors. The planned start time of the fourth race had to be postponed to 2 pm due to several thunderstorms. The southerly wind initially provided good conditions for the first races.

The 1st race started with strong wind of up to 17 knots, which however decreased in the course and even fell below 6 knots. In addition, the wind shifted up to 90 degrees, which was a real challenge for the participants. After three rounds the 1st race had to be stopped prematurely, because the rules require a minimum wind limit of constant 6 knots.

In the 2nd race the wind conditions improved slightly and there were less wind shifts. This allowed the race to be valid, which was crucial for the European Championship, as at least four valid races are required.

The 3rd race was similar to the first and also had to be abandoned in the third round. The unsettled conditions were the reason for this.

However, the sailors could finish the well-deserved evening in a cozy atmosphere as well as by the entertainment of a live band.

For the coming final day, two more races with also changeable conditions are planned. The scores of the teams are close together so that tomorrow will continue to provide excitement.

The victory in the fourth race went to Y. Trecul as well as to his crew T. Ferrand as on the previous day, who could prevail in all valid races so far despite tactically demanding and changeable conditions.

Enclosed is the official result list after four races.
