Championship Lead Changes Ahead of the Final Day
Day 4 delivered four fantastic races, all completed on schedule, with race durations of around 33–34 minutes. Starting in 8–10 knots and building up to 14–17 knots before easing slightly for the final race, the fleet enjoyed excellent Tornado conditions with flat water and increasing waves according to the breeze that lead to a dramatic shift at the top of the leaderboard. With twelve races now completed and one final day still to come, the battle for the World Championship remains wide open.
Before racing resumed, the Jury awarded redress (RDG) to all competitors affected by the course change during Race 7 (NSC). The decision ensured that crews who did not sail the altered course were fairly compensated, resulting in adjusted overall standings before the day’s racing.
Overall Results
The biggest story of the day was the change at the top of the leaderboard.
Germany’s Markus Betz and Nicolas Betz (GER 2) delivered an outstanding performance across the day’s races to move into first place overall. Their consistency in the final four races allowed them to overtake the overnight leaders and finish the day with 19.5 net points.
The Czech mixed crew Zdenek Pavlis and Klara Pavlisova (CZE 62) remain firmly in contention. After leading the championship earlier in the week, they now sit just 3.2 points behind the Germans on 22.7 net points, setting up an exciting showdown on the final day.
Australia’s Allan Gamble and Stephen Gamble continue to hold third place overall on 33.0 net points, while another Czech mixed crew, Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis, remain close behind in fourth.
With one day of racing remaining, several podium positions are still very much up for grabs.
Mixed Category
The Mixed Championship is equally competitive.
Zdenek Pavlis and Klara Pavlisova (CZE 62) continue to lead the Mixed standings while also holding second place overall, thanks to another consistently strong day’s racing.
Their closest rivals are fellow family members Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis (CZE 72), who remain second in the Mixed category after climbing to fourth overall.
Belgium’s Jan Coppens and Marie Coppens (BEL 7) continue to occupy third place in the Mixed standings, maintaining a comfortable advantage over the remaining mixed teams.
Looking Ahead
With twelve races completed and only the final day’s schedule remaining, both the Overall and Mixed World Championship titles are still undecided. The lead has changed hands, the margins remain small, and the final races promise an exciting conclusion to a highly competitive championship. The Jury’s redress decision following the Race 7 course change has also played an important role in shaping the standings, ensuring that the championship will be decided on the water during the final day of racing.
