Tornado Worlds - Race Day One and AGM

Day One of the Worlds started with a bang, great wind conditions and a perfect three races. The wind conditions were 15-17 knots gusting 20 at the start, it died slightly at the top mark in the 2nd race but soon came back. Meaning the Tornados had a brilliant day sailing the waters of the Lubeck Bay.

The first two races were reasonably clean starts but on the third race a number of boats were OCS but continued without realising. At the start of the second race an incident involving an Italian team that parked just off the line and a German team saw the later going up the back and resting the bows on the Italian’s trampoline.

By the end of the third race the wind was much stronger with a fantastic downwind leg for the competitors.

Great to see so many teams out on the start line including mixed crews with ladies at the helm.

There have been a few swims and breakages but everyone is working to get the boats fixed for Day 2.

The mixed German crew of Roland and Nahid Gaebler are currently leading the fleet followed by Greeks Danny Paschalides and Kostas Trigonis then Ozzies Brett and Ryan.

The AGM was also held last night with lots of sailors keen to get involved and help on the Committee and do their bit to try to get the Tornados back into the Olympics.
