Day two of the UK National championships provided a heavy wind which was building throughout the day.
With a breezy start to the day on shore there was a long postponement while the race committee went to check the race area. With a steady 16 knots on the race course we headed out for the first race. Not all boats chose to race today with only 6 boats taking to the water.
The first race provided great conditions for the fleet with the chop building up throughout the race. Downwind was great fun but the teams took a low course to tackle the waves. Upwind was steady and fast with the teams keeping very close and cross tacking each other. Grant Piggot took an early lead and built on it throughout the 3 lap race.
Race Two was quicker with the breeze building to around 20 knots with gusts of 25knots. The first lap was manageable with fantastic downwind conditions, the second lap provided stronger wind conditions with the other fleets at the regatta capsizing. Two teams decided to continue upwind into shore rather than turning to complete the downwind leg. Three of the other four teams finished after two laps but there were a couple of capsizes and a few small breakages. Grant Piggot also won this race.
After race two we were sent back into the shore and racing was abandoned for the day. The rescue boats were kept very busy today mopping up the other fleets and their capsizes.
