Welcome to the August ITA newsletter, this month we introduce you to your new committee for the year, tell you about some great up and coming events and give you the chance to read the official interview with the new World Champions. 2010 TORNADO MANROLAND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP The 2010 Manroland Tornado World Championships were held at the end of July in Travemunde, Germany. Over 50 teams travelled to Germany to compete, the weather was very kind to us with some fantastic conditions and only one day where no racing happened. It was great to see so many keen sailors representing their nations. We had a variety of sailors from other classes also attending with sailors fresh from the A class and F18 World Championships. The overall winners were Roland and Nahid Gaebler followed by Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantin Trigonis then Helge and Christian Sach. Video from the World Championships SPEED SAILING IN THE RIVER TRAVE During the World Championships we ran two days of Speed Sailing in the River Trave. The crowds came in their thousands to watch the Tornado action. The format involved two initial races with 8 boats in each race. The top 4 from each race then went through to the grand final. The small sailing area with buildings and boats along the banks produced some interesting wind conditions with plenty of gusts and shifts for the sailors to play with. The organisers of Travemunde Week were amazed at how many people came to watch the action and they want us back again next year. The sailors also loved the experience saying that it really gets the adrenalin rushing through their bodies with the small and tricky courses close to the crowd. Why don’t you try and organise some of these races in your country? The ITA can help you do this. TORNADO EUROPEANS This year’s event is being held in Lake Garda from the 15th-18th September. Make sure you get your entry in before the 31st August to save 50 EURO on the entry price. The event will be in the media across the world with video being produced every day, this is your chance to attract major sponsors for your team. If you are looking for another event to attend around the European Championships then you should attend the biggest Multihull race in Italy, the Multicento. UK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS This year’s UK National Championships are being held at Brightlingsea in Essex over the 24th, 25th and 26th September. The championships are being held as part of Regfest (a catamaran festival celebrating the boats of the famous Reg White) where many different makes of catamaran come together. At the same time the Spitfire Europeans are being held along with events for the F18, Shadow and Hurricane. This year’s event will be extra special because of the passing of Reg White earlier in the year.
